Nail Polish and the Economy
Yup, read it again… I haven’t seen colors like this since 2005!
If you’re sane at all I’m sure you’re wondering what on earth I would be talking about! Let me explain myself…
A while back I was talking to someone, over champagne of course (this is when I get my best ideas), and I stated “The economy is going to get better, I can tell from trending nail polish colors”. Obviously, I got a laugh when I said this, but hear me out. Think back to what you were doing the summer before Lehman Brothers when under, and everything went down in our economy? What were you doing? I was prepping for fall and saying goodbye to the desire to wear bright fun colors, thinking… I must be growing up, I could really go for a rich merlot colored nail polish.
Since then my nail polish rotation showed and assortment of reds, pinks, beiges, and blacks… depending on the season of course! These were safe or man hunting colors (colors that guys like to see on us). There was no adventure or risk in these colors, I knew if I wore these colors my boyfriend would like it. A similar thing happen in fashion, designers were going the safe route and recycling classics because we couldn’t financially afford the risky trend.
Well my friends, if you’re following my blog and you paint your nails… I’m willing to bet that you’ve also invested in a blue, turquoise, leopard, or textured manicure in the last 2 months. Yup, nail risks are in style again! The adventure is back on!
People are starting to spend their hard earned moola on risky nail trends! Things are looking up, and i have a theory that this means so is our economy!
I may be crazy, and if I am, this is a fashion blog so who cares! On the other hand, you had better bet you’ll see a big fat I told you so post if I’m right.
Now let’s hope we can pass a budget by the 1st!

So I got the new Julian Louie for Aldo and as much as I love the idea and design behind these bad boys, I can’t get over how cheap they feel.
They’re pretty, but they feel like Aldo took cardboard and glued fabric to it… Not that I really expected much more from Aldo.
What do you guys think, keep ‘em or set them free for another fashion lover who’s not as picky about details??
I’m thrilled to tell you one of my favorite brands opened their first flagship boutique last week on Abbot Kinney in Venice, CA.
I haven’t made my way over to the Westside this week, but it looks like I might need a fieldtrip across the city this weekend!
